How to Recycle or Dispose of Christmas Trees

In many urban and suburban areas, Christmas trees are collected from curbside during the first 2 weeks in January. Be sure to remove all remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails, stands, other NON-Organic decorative materials and other materials that are not part of the original tree. This includes tree stands also. Flocked trees are usually accepted, but not artificial trees. Large trees (larger than the standard 6 - 7 ft tree) may need to be cut in half to be acceptable by your garbage hauler. But scrroll down this page for more specific information and local links.

What happens to the trees? In most cases, the trees are chipped and made into a mulch which is usually made available, free to city or county residents. Important: Never burn your Christmas tree in a fireplace or wood stove. Burning the tree may contribute to creosote buildup and could cause a chimney fire.

Tarrant County, Texas: Where and How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree After the Holidays January 2024

  • Arlington, TX - It is recommended that Residents recycle Christmas trees by taking them to the mulching facility Center at the Arlington Landfill free of charge. Christmas Tree recycling will be held from December 26th through January 11th. The landfill is located at 800 Mosier Valley Road and Collins Street about one mile north of Green Oaks Blvd. and is open Monday through Saturday from 7 am until 4:30 pm, weather permitting.
    Arlington residents may also drop off live Christmas trees to be recycled at the Calloway's Nursery located at 4940 S. Cooper Street. Christmas trees should be loaded into one of the containers on the north side of the building during business hours only. Please do not place next to containers. Please remove all ornaments, lights, tree stands, and plastic bags. Flocked trees are acceptable.
    If you have questions about the landfill, please call 817-354-2300. Free mulch made from recycled Christmas trees and leaves collected through the leaf drop off locations, will be available to Arlington residents in the spring.

    Trees placed curbside will be collected for trash. Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut in half for trash pick-up. Please do not take Christmas trees to the leaf recycling drop-off sites. F
  • Azle - Curbside pickup of Christmas trees on the second collection day of the week,(Thursday or Friday, depending on your trash pickup schedule).
    You may also drop off trees at City Hall at 505 W. Main St. The city will have collection bins at the last row of the City Hall parking lot until mid-January.
  • Bedford, TX - free recycling of live trees for free until Jan. 8. Your tree can't be flocked and needs to have all ornaments and decorations removed. Residents can drop off their trees at the Meadow Park Athletic Complex at 3200 Meadow Park Drive.
  • Benbrook, TX -  Trees can be left on the curb with other bulk trash and brush. They can also be taken to the Southeast Landfill at 6288 Salt Road in Fort Worth.
  • Blue Mound - curbside pick up on the first Thursday of every month. Or drop off on dump day (the first Saturday following the first Thursday of the month) at 1817 Fagan Drive from 8 a.m. to noon, or until the bin is full.
  • Burleson, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees no later than 7 a.m. on the Monday of your regular bulk trash pickup week. Bulk trash collection is determined by zone with each having a separate week every month for bulk pickup. To figure out when your bulk collection week is, you can consult the city's map or call the municipal service center at 817-426-9835.
  • Colleville, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees  by 8 a.m. on the second Saturday in January (1/7/2023). 7 for pickup.
  • Crowley, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees on the second pick up day of the week.
  • Dalworthington Gardens, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees cut into less then 4 ft sections  with regular garbage. Trees must be either bundled or stacked.
  • Edgecliff Village, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees put out with regular trash, provided they're cut into four-foot sections and weigh less than 50 pounds.
  • Euless, TX - Drop-off trees at
    Midway Park, 300 W. Midway Drive until the second Saturday in January. Look for the designated drop-off zone.
  • Everman, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees cut into less then 4 ft sections put out with regular trash, and weigh less than 50 pounds.
  • Flower Mound, TX - Drop off undecorated trees at
    Gerault Park, 1200 Gerault Road from  9 am to 6 pm until the second Sunday in January. 
  • Forest Hill, TX - Curbside pickup of undecorated live trees cut into less then 4 ft sections with regular trash. 
  • Fort Worth, TX - Live Christmas trees can be disposed of as part of the normal weekly yard waste pickup, or you can take it to a city drop-off station . Trees must be less than eight feet long; cut trees in two pieces if necessary. Be sure to take all your decorations, lights and tree stands off of the tree, and do not put the tree in a plastic bag. Flocked trees are accepted; artificial trees are not accepted for yard waste collection. All the trees collected in Fort Worth are recycled into mulch . Live Christmas trees can be disposed of as part of Fort Worth' s normal weekly yard waste pickup. Trees must be less than eight feet long; cut trees in two pieces if necessary. Be sure to take all your decorations, lights and tree stands off of the tree before you place it on the curb. Do not put the tree in a plastic bag. Flocked trees are accepted; artificial trees should be disposed of in the brown garbage cart.

  • Westlake, TX - Christmas Tree Pickup - Christmas trees will be picked up on the second Friday in Januaryas part of Westlake's regularly scheduled bulk pickup.
